Growing Hyacinths for Christmas…

Hyacinths make a great fragrant Christmas display and a great gift!

You will need to buy ‘Prepared Hyacinths’ as these will not need to be forced for so long and will ensure early flowering.

You will need to plant these by the end of September to make sure you have flowers for Christmas.

For best results plant a few batches with a weekly interval, this hopefully means you have continuous flowers over several weeks.

Plant these in bulb fibre around 5cm, make sure they are not touching.

Water in lightly and cover and then place in a dark frost free place.

Around 10 weeks time these will shoot at this point remove them from their hiding place into a light spot to bring them on for flowering.

If they look like flowering too early – you could always keep them in a cooler place.
